In line with The Governor of Enugu State, Dr.Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s mandate to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance the livelihoods of livestock farmers in Enugu State, the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project, under the Federal Government of Nigeria, continued with a courtesy visit to Enugu South and North Local Government Areas (LGAs) on sensitization/Profiling exercise.
The courtesy visit to Enugu South and North LGAs for the sensitization exercise on the profiling of livestock farmers was a significant step in enhancing the productivity and resilience of the livestock sector in Enugu State. The engagement fostered a deeper understanding of the goals and process of the profiling initiative, encouraged local collaboration, and identified key challenges that need to be addressed to improve the livelihoods of farmers. The profiling exercise, supported by the local governments and the community, is expected to lead to more effective agricultural policies, targeted interventions, and overall development in the livestock sector in Enugu State.
Dr. Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze, the State Project Coordinator, urging stakeholders to focus on the official objectives of the L-PRES project in Enugu State rather than giving attention to rumors. She emphasized that the L-PRES initiative is designed to benefit the people of Enugu State and contribute positively to the community. Dr. Nnajieze encouraged collaboration and trust in the project’s goals, reinforcing that it is a valuable opportunity for the state’s development and growth.
Sensitization efforts were successful, with both officials and farmers recognizing the importance of the profiling exercise. Farmers showed eagerness to participate, understanding its potential to unlock government support and opportunities. Both LGAs committed to supporting the profiling initiative, with promises to help mobilize farmers.
Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, the Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area (LGA), and his executive team warmly received the L-PRES (Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support) Enugu State Project Coordinator, Dr.Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze and her team with great enthusiasm, expressing their appreciation for the team’s efforts to enhance the livestock sector through the ongoing profiling exercise. His commendation underscored the significance of the L-PRES profiling exercise in enhancing the livelihoods of livestock farmers in Enugu North. His remarks highlighted the collaborative efforts between the local government and the L-PRES team. The local farmers, in turn, were reassured that the profiling would lead to improved resources, training, and government support, ensuring that the future of livestock farming in the region is more sustainable and resilient.
The Deputy Chairman of Enugu South LGA, Honourable Anthony Egbo expressed his delight and gratitude in receiving the L-PRES Enugu State Project Coordinator and her team. He conveyed the LGA’s readiness to support the profiling exercise for livestock farmers, emphasizing that they would assist in mobilizing farmers recognizing its importance in improving the agricultural sector. He also expressed confidence that the partnership between the local government and L-PRES would result in positive outcomes for farmers, providing them with better access to government programs, resources, and opportunities.
The visit also set the stage for the next steps in the profiling exercise, with the goal of fostering long-term improvements in the livestock sector in Enugu North/South LGA and beyond. A town hall meeting included farmers, community leaders, and agricultural officers.
