The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES ENUGU), a World Bank-assisted initiative, Partners SUMCHI integrated Farms with the Enugu State Government to boost livestock production and commercialize the livestock value chain.
A visit to SUNCHI Integrated Farms in Enugu reveals a thriving agro-allied business that has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s poultry and agricultural sectors. Established in 2013, the farm operates breeder farms, hatcheries, feed mills, and a soybean oil refinery. It began with a capacity of 200,000 birds per month and has since expanded to a hatchery capacity of 480,000 birds monthly and advanced feed production facilities.
Despite challenges such as the Naira redesign, fuel subsidy removal, and currency devaluation in 2023, SUNCHI Farms has remained resilient. The farm’s innovations include automated feed mills and value addition through its oil refinery. Its contributions to food security and employment make it a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
This collaboration aims to address systemic challenges in the sector, enhance productivity, and empower farmers in areas like cattle, piggery, and poultry farming. Enugu’s structured ecosystem infrastructure and government commitment have made it the only Southeastern state qualified for this program alongside Ebonyi State.
Sunchi Integrated Farms, a key player in Enugu’s agricultural sector, complements this effort by providing modern hatchery services, producing day-old chicks locally to reduce transportation-related losses and costs for poultry farmers. The farm also operates breeder farms, feed mills, and soybean oil refining facilities, contributing significantly to livestock production in the Southeast and beyond.
