The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project in Enugu State engaged with Cattle Rearers in Ugwu – Onyeama to administer the anthrax vaccines to their cattles . The anthrax vaccination campaign in Ugwu-Onyeama today represents a proactive step by L-PRES Enugu to protect livestock and enhance the resilience of the agricultural sector in the region, the project aims to mitigate the impact of anthrax and promote sustainable livestock farming practices.
The vaccination campaign in Ugwu-Onyeama was led by Dr. Obinna Ugwu, the Animal Health Officer for L-PRES Enugu. Under his leadership, the veterinary team administered anthrax vaccines to cattle belonging to local herders. Dr. Ugwu emphasized the importance of the campaign, noting that “vaccinating now is better than responding to an outbreak. Prevention saves lives, animals, and livelihoods.”
L-PRES Enugu also partnered with community leaders and local Cattle Rearers to ensure high participation and compliance. By fostering awareness through sensitization campaigns. The project continues to serve as a model for preventive veterinary care, contributing to food security, public health, and rural livelihoods.
