L-PRES recently visited Oji River to engage local livestock farmers in a sensitization program aimed at enhancing livestock productivity and resilience. This initiative is part of L-PRES’s broader objective to improve the commercialization of livestock value chains and strengthen the capacity of farmers in Nigeria.
The World bank through L-PRES Enugu is collaborating with the Enugu State government to enhance livestock production, aligning with Governor Peter Mbah’s agricultural manifesto. This partnership aims to improve productivity and commercialization within the livestock sector, addressing systemic challenges and fostering economic growth. The initiative includes establishing support structures for farmers, promoting sustainable practices, Governor Mbah emphasizes transforming agriculture into a profitable venture that generates jobs and increases productivity, reflecting a commitment to significant investments in the agricultural value chain in Enugu State.
Dr. Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze, the State Project Coordinator for L-PRES in Enugu, was represented by the Environmental Officer Dr Enoch Nnamani who emphasized the importance of livestock farmers aligning with World Bank initiatives through L-PRES during a recent engagement. Also, The Animal Husbandry Officer Dr.Ossai Jonathan highlighted on the project’s goals to enhance livestock productivity and commercialization in collaboration with the Enugu State government.
Honourable Greg Chijioke Anyaegbudike, the Chairman of Oji River Local Government, expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Enhancement Project (L-PRES) team. He emphasized his readiness to support L-PRES in its mission to enhance livestock productivity and resilience in the region, aiming to improve local economic conditions and agricultural practices which he gave an immediate instruction to Mrs Okafor Gertrude Ngozi HOD Agric Oji River to get into work. This partnership reflects a commitment to sustainable development within Oji River and aligns with broader agricultural reforms in Enugu State.
The project emphasizes the importance of livestock in rural economies, addressing challenges such as food insecurity and environmental degradation. Through targeted support, L-PRES aims to foster sustainable practices and economic growth within the livestock sector in Enugu state.
