The State Project Coordinator (SPC), Dr. Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze , delivered the opening remarks, welcomed all committee members and highlighted the importance, roles, and responsibilities of the Grievance Redress Committee (GRC) in ensuring the successful implementation of the Enugu L-PRES Project.
The SPC emphasized that one of the first tasks of the committee is to develop a standardized grievance form and logbook for documenting complaints from stakeholders, she also announced that grievance lines, websites, and physical grievance boxes would be established to ensure prompt receipt and handling of complaints from stakeholders.
The committee was tasked with receiving complaints and actively inspecting the environmental and social factors that may affect the communities where project structures, such as the model veterinary hospital, will be sited. The SPC stressed the importance of discretion and resourcefulness in managing social and environmental conflicts that may arise from the establishment of project structures.
The committee members were encouraged to thoroughly study the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) manual, along with relevant national legislations and regulations, to ensure informed and effective service delivery.
The SPC underscored the need for fairness and confidentiality in the discharge of the committee’s duties, ensuring that all grievances are handled with integrity. The Social Safeguard Officer was charged with leading the committee resourcefully and ensuring that a logbook is acquired for the documentation of all complaints and grievances.
Members were encouraged to be fully engaged and hands-on in the implementation and monitoring of all GRC activities to ensure robust and efficient service delivery. There would be quarterly meetings to review the progress and challenges of the GRC. Additionally, ad hoc meetings may be convened to address urgent grievances, such as those related to the siting of the model veterinary hospital etc..
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer applauded the establishment of the GRC and expressed the committee members’ commitment to discharging their duties effectively and contributing to the project’s success, also the Environmental Safeguard Officer commended the proactive approach of addressing potential grievances before they escalate, particularly concerning the siting of the regional model veterinary hospital.
