Enugu State Government has been actively supporting agriculture and farmers through various initiatives:
Agricultural Inputs and Grants: Governor Peter Mbah has distributed inputs and grants worth N4.6 billion to farmers and MSMEs, including fertilizers, power tillers, and seedlings. This aims to enhance food security and agro-industrialization.
Rural Infrastructure Development: The state is revamping rural roads to improve connectivity for farming clusters.
Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ): Enugu State is developing SAPZs in collaboration with the African Development Bank to boost agro-processing.
Training and Empowerment: NGOs and government initiatives have provided training on agro-ecology and livestock farming to enhance farmers’ skills.

A month ago The Enugu State Government allocated N2 billion for the establishment of farm estates across its 260 wards in 2025. This initiative, announced by Dr. Patrick Ubru, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, aims to enhance food security and self-sufficiency in local food production.
Key aspects of the plan include:
Training Residents: The government will provide training in modern agricultural practices, focusing on high-yield seeds and effective land management techniques.
“One Political Ward, One Farm Estate Initiative”: Each ward will develop its own farm estate, promoting various agricultural activities such as crop farming, animal husbandry, poultry, horticulture, and fish farming.
Youth Engagement: The initiative emphasizes the involvement of local youths to foster ownership and create job opportunities within the agricultural sector.
Security Measures: Farm estates will be secured with fencing, and local government councils will collaborate to ensure 24-hour security and monitoring.
This comprehensive approach is designed to address food insecurity and reduce conflicts between farmers and herders while boosting agricultural productivity in Enugu State.
