The Youth Assembly of Nigeria(YAN), Enugu State Chapter, recently visited L-PRES in Enugu State to discuss initiatives aimed at involving youth in livestock farming. They expressed strong support for integrating young people into the livestock sector and emphasized the importance of profiling local livestock farmers. This initiative is part of broader efforts to empower youth through agriculture, enhancing their skills and promoting sustainable farming practices in the region. The assembly aims to create opportunities for youth engagement and economic development within the agricultural sector.

The State Project Coordinator L-PRES Enugu state, Dr. Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze, welcomed the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Enugu Chapter, and provided an overview of L-PRES’s mission to enhance livestock productivity in the state. She highlighted L-PRES’s commitment to profiling livestock farmers, which aims to improve their visibility and access to resources. This initiative is crucial for fostering sustainable practices and increasing the economic viability of the livestock sector in Enugu State, ultimately contributing to rural development and poverty alleviation efforts in the region. She also gave an overview of L-PRES’s mission in alignment with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for agricultural development.
Dr. Nnajieze emphasized that L-PRES aims to empower livestock farmers with knowledge, tools, and resources to improve farm output.
The coordinator likely discussed L-PRES’s key objectives, which include capacity building for local livestock farmers, infrastructure development such as establishing Livestock Service Centers, and strategies for crisis prevention and conflict resolution among livestock communities. These initiatives are designed to enhance the state’s livestock sector and contribute to rural development and poverty alleviation efforts.

The National Deputy Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Comrade Ezenwata Nwangwu, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with L-PRES Enugu State. He highlighted the potential benefits for the youth of Enugu and pledged support for profiling livestock farmers across all local government areas in the state.
By supporting the profiling of livestock farmers across all local government areas, this will contribute to creating a comprehensive database. This data will be valuable for targeted interventions, policy-making, and ensuring that support reaches farmers effectively.
This partnership between YAN and L-PRES Enugu State represents a significant step towards realizing Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of making agriculture a profitable business that creates jobs for youth and women while increasing productivity and revenue in the state. The meeting ended with a group photograph between the staff of Enugu L-PRES and the member committee of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN).
